For any concerned Authors

I am charging for my labor and materials, not your work. Before I take a commission I will first contact the author to make sure they are comfortable with me turning their work into a physical book. There are only 4 exceptions to this:

  • The client is the author

  • The author has not been active for 5 years

  • The author is on my Pre-approved list (Found below) of authors who have already given their consent

  • The client includes a link to, or copy of, them getting permission from the artist.

Why do you have to ask the artist?

I usually ask the author for permission myself out of respect. I've encountered many who do not think artists have any ownership of their work because it is fan work, and that is wrong. I want the author to feel heard and have the ability to ask me any questions they might have.

That said, some authors would rather hear from you then me. So, if you want to ask the author before contacting me please do and send me a link or copy of the conversation (so I can verify) with the request. This also means you don't have to wait on me to get a response and the book gets done faster.

How do I send you a link to the conversation?

If it's on AO3, simple hit the "Thread" button and it will isolate the conversation to it's own page.

If it's on another site without this handy function or through DMs/Ims/etc., then screenshots are acceptable.

What if the Author doesn’t want their story printed?

Then that’s their choice. I respect that and will add them to the “No Print” list found at the bottom of this page. We can then try a different work you want printed or that can be the end of it.

What if the Author doesn’t answer?

There have been occasions where I don’t get an answer from the author and that’s usually down to 2 reasons: 1- they lost track of the message before they could respond; that is why I send a second message a week after the first. 2- They aren’t interested and don’t want to interact. That is their choice, these are safe spaces for fans and I will not pester them; two messages are more then enough. After two weeks with no answer we will assume they don’t want it printed and move to another story or not, your choice.

Do you do incomplete stories?

No. An ongoing series is fine, but not an ongoing work; partially because authors will sometimes ret-con a story that isn’t working, but mostly I don’t think the author would even agree.

Why do larger books cost so much more?

The picture to the left (Or top on Mobile) shows a Journal work that is 11,937 words at $20, an early Hardcover at 17,063 words and $40, and a Saga at 275,029 words and $200. The Journal took 2 hours to format, print, and sew while the Saga took almost 2 weeks. It is simply a matter of time and materials.

What is the largest work you will bind?

Currently, 238,000 words. After that they don’t fit in my book press anymore and will end up with a pronounced slope, which is not pleasant to look at and does not fit well on a book shelf.

What if I want a story larger then 238,000 words?

If it's only a few thousand words over I'm willing to do it, but after that it needs to meet a very specific criteria: it has to have acts or natural story breaks that allow me to turn it into multiple volumes. For example: I once did an over 700,000 word Harry Potter fic I broke into 7 volumes all under 200,000 words. The first book will be full price, but each subsequent one gets $10 off.

When does money change hands?

After I have the author’s permission I will request half to cover my time and materials. Once the book is complete I will send you a preview along with a request for the rest of the payment and your address. Once I have both I send the book and the shipping information.

Why do I have to pay you? I could do it myself.

Then please do.

But seriously, I learned to bind books from tutorials on YouTube, specifically Sealemon, and I invite you to go look those up if you want to start binding your own books; I'm not sure if there are any on formatting the text.

What you are paying me for is my experience earned through my schooling, hobbies, jobs, and building my own library, and materials I've collected from those over the years. Commissioning me means you skip the material investment and steep learning curve, getting a quality book made specifically for you in just a few weeks.

No Print

Writers that do not want their works printed for various reasons. I still include links to their profiles so you can enjoy their stories, but do not bother them about printing. They have the right to refuse and I will always respect that.
